Recalled Boppy Newborn Lounger

The CPSC recalled the Boppy newborn lounger after eight infant deaths have been linked to the product. The babies died while swaddled in the lounger and were found lying on their sides or stomachs. The CPSC said that the lounger could lead to suffocation. In addition, eight infants have died from suffocation in a similar product. CPSC and federal regulators have warned parents that the recalled product may be dangerous for infants.

Even though the Boppy Newborn Lounger is designed for cradling an infant, the CPSC says that parents often use it to put their babies to sleep. This is contrary to safe sleep recommendations from the American Academy of Pediatrics. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends keeping the baby’s crib free of soft bedding and bumpers.

The Boppy Company recalls 3.3 million Boppy newborn loungers after eight infants died from suffocation while sleeping. The CPSC issued a safety warning for other similar pillow-like baby products. Parents are urged to stop using these products immediately. The recalled products are:
